Here are some of the top ten most common New Year’s Resolutions:
- Spend more time with the family
- Eat healthier
- Go to the gym
- Lose weight
- Quit smoking
- Quit drinking
- Save money and pay off debt
It’s a great list!
But something happens…the list becomes a distant memory in a very short period of time.
Why is it so hard to keep a resolution?
From my experience in the past it’s because I never fully COMMITTED to mySELF.
I didn’t make THE DECISION to create change, commit to the change and follow through on the change.
Oh, I was very focused in the beginning when the resolution is fresh and I’m motivated but a few weeks later when the resolution loses its shiny, happy fun factor and it’s just hard work, that’s when I didn’t have a plan.
If you don’t have a plan when it gets hard, chances are you will fail. (Ouch!) And when you fail at something knowing you really didn’t put your full commitment or effort into it, it’s tough on your self-worth, self-esteem and self-value. You feel like a ‘failure’.
PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS TO YOURSELF!
If you want to make a change in your life, think about how badly you want the change. Are you so sick of the way things are now that you are going to push through when it becomes difficult? When it’s just you and your goal and there is no one around to support you and cheer you on, will you make the right choice or the easy choice?
What will force you to HONOUR THE PROMISE you made to yourSELF?
Two years ago when I made the commitment to run 40 kilometres on my 40th birthday (I had never exercised in my life!) I learned how to follow through on my commitment. It was an incredible feeling because not only did I complete the fitness goal but I also had a year of amazing transformations. Because of one goal, other areas of my life improved. One healthy action led to another healthy action.
I became HAPPY because I began LIVING AUTHENTICALLY for the first time in my life.
HERE IS THE TRUTH AS I SEE IT:
Based on my experience, no book, course, workshop, exercise equipment, or words of wisdom will change your life if you don’t facilitate the change. No person can help you change what isn’t working in your life if you aren’t ready.
HERE IS MY ADVICE:
Commit to yourSELF first before spending money. Make that quiet but strong inner DECISION that resonates to your core creating a new kind of energy. This is where change happens. From there you can gather the tools you need to complete your goal.
**My book gives you motivation and all the steps on how to follow through on your goal, but I can’t help you (and no one else can either) until you make that first step within yourSELF.
Because I’ve done the work and followed through on a promise to mySELF, I understand the VALUE OF GOALS. They are a priority and necessity in my life.
I encourage you to really define what change you want to see in your life and then make THE DECISION to yourSELF to passionately commit to that change.
From personal experience I know that JOY, LOVE, GRATITUDE, LAUGHTER and LIVING AUTHENTICALLY will naturally become a part of your life when you make THE DECISION to change what isn’t working.
I wish you all a loving, JOY-full, abundant and inspiring 2012.
See you next year!
With a smile,
Tina
