Feeling Good – Simple Gestures Of Love

It’s a beautiful Tuesday here in Vancouver, BC. The sun is shining; the sky is blue and the birds are joyfully singing their songs.

I am humbled by these small things. I find myself completely at peace in the forest surrounded by the lush trees, green moss and the stillness it provides. I am lost in thought as I run along the ocean intoxicated by the fresh salt air. I think of my life and the people who have touched me in my past, present and those who may come along in my future.

I honor today because a few years ago I almost lost someone whom I love to my core…

I am reminded that life is precious

Our relationships make life meaningful. As an individual we grow, change and challenge ourselves but it’s the time we spend with others that brings depth and definition to our life. Our words and actions create our legacy.

Every day is an opportunity to say:

“I love you my friend. I’m so happy we met.”

Or a simple phone call:

“Thanks Mom. It wasn’t easy but we got through it, didn’t we?”

It’s a chance to extend KINDNESS to a stranger, co-worker or neighbour…and every day you can show yourSELF LOVE, COMPASSION and CARE.

Simple gestures of love can change a world one person at a time.

Today I honor YOU, my readers. I may not know who you are, where you are from or what your story is but I do know that you are UNIQUE, IMPORTANT and VALUED.

Thank you for being here; thank you for being YOU.

Feeling Good On Midday!

I woke up bright and early yesterday morning, filled up my travel mug with sweet, hot Chai, grabbed my dog and drove to Kamloops, BC. It was a beautiful day. I had the music cranked, sun roof open and sang my heart out. I love road trips.

For me, the combination of driving, singing, thinking and sunshine equals freedom.

I had the absolute pleasure of speaking to SUSAN EDGELL, host for Midday on CFJC-TV about my upcoming performance on May 9th and my passion for mental and emotional wellness.

Our conversation will air on MONDAY, APRIL 29th between 12:00-1:00 pm.

I then received an email from LONG & MCQUADE in Kamloops stating they will SPONSOR the event!

Thank you LONG & MCQUADE for supporting mental and emotional wellness!

Believe In Each Other

Victoria Marathon

Although the image is not from the Boston Marathon, I thought the energy and spirit of support was a great message to share and embrace.

I am affected by any violence in our world. Whether it is a single act upon one individual or a massive attack towards a group of people, in the end it is someone’s son or daughter getting injured or killed. No matter what country, race or religion it always comes down to that basic fact. A parent is grieving for their child and quite possibly a child is mourning their parent or maybe siblings, cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents or friends.

I find it difficult to adequately articulate and honor the deep heartbreak and range of emotions from losing people you love.

As a runner and someone who uses running as a way to connect to my INSTINCT, challenge my FEARS, achieve my GOALS, build CONFIDENCE, celebrate LIFE, bond with FRIENDS and live in JOY, the explosions at the Boston Marathon have another layer.

For something so devastating and traumatic to happen to something that encompasses HEALTH, WELLNESS, SUPPORT, PASSION, DEDICATION and CELEBRATION is deeply sad to me.

I’ve heard the words “terrorist attack” be used in connection to this recent tragedy. I started thinking about that word and paying attention to what others had to say…”TERROR-ist”…ATTACK…

The phrase itself invokes FEAR.

It is a person or group wanting to inflict FEAR, TERROR, VIOLENCE or INTIMIDATION upon others, usually for political reasons according to the dictionary.

I decided I can be horrified, sad and enraged but I can’t BELIEVE in the fear and ‘terror’ executed in these attacks.

I think it’s important to recognize, honor and empathize with the senseless violence, the devastation, deaths, injuries and horrific trauma people experienced but we should be mindful of the FEAR the bombers and some articles or reports are feeding us.

Believing in the fear limits our human experience and feeds negativity. Believing in fear can morph into anger, hatred and turn violent. It can also shut people down so they no longer do things that they enjoy, limiting their life experiences.

As the runners in the event display with their COMMITMENT to training, PASSION towards reaching their goal and incredible COURAGE to go out and run despite countless obstacles mentally, emotionally and physically WE MUST RISE UP AND NOT ALLOW FEARS TO LIMIT OUR LIFE.

As the many volunteers and spectators who SUPPORT and cheer them on, honoring the STRENGTH it takes to push through in difficult circumstances, WE MUST SUPPORT EACH OTHER, ENCOURAGE AND EMBRACE HUMANITY.

We must continue to BELIEVE in one another and not allow the fear or terror to dictate our life and how we treat one another.

“What is this world coming to?”

We are coming to the aid of others. We are coming together to support those in need of blood transfusions, a place to stay, a hug, medical attention, and without a second thought offering love and kindness.

BELIEVE IN EACH OTHER DESPITE THE FEW THAT TRY TO GET US TO DO OTHERWISE.

With love,

Tina

It Takes A Village To Raise A Child

How many teenage girls need to be sexually assaulted or raped before we start to educate our teenage boys?

How many teenage girls need to then be further DEMORALIZED, HUMILIATED and DEGRADED by photos and slanderous talk through social media and texting by BOTH genders?

How many teenage girls need to SUFFER with severe depression, anxiety, eating disorders, cutting and post traumatic stress disorder because they feel so HOPELESS, ANGRY, FEARFUL, TRAUMATIZED and DEGRADED? For them it becomes impossible to see past the pain and bullying. Death is the only option they see to end the endless reminder because as we all know, the internet is infinite. Once your photo is online, it is out of your control.

Why is there such a complete disassociation of respect, empathy and compassion from their peers?

What are WE doing wrong? Where did they learn this from? How is it they have come to think this is acceptable behavior?

I am extremely disturbed at what appears to be our inability to teach our children how to treat each other with RESPECT, DIGNITY, LOVE and KINDNESS.

I do not have children of my own, but that does not make me any less responsible for the state of our younger generation. As far as I’m concerned it takes a village to raise a child. It takes a village to support and guide a child. It takes a village to LOVE a child.

As a community, as a society, we need to LEAD BY EXAMPLE and TEACH our children LOVE, RESPECT, KINDNESS TOWARDS OTHERS and COMPASSION.

Individuals, families, celebrities, organizations, clubs, businesses, large corporations, media, internet sites, advertising and the entertainment industry (television, film and gaming) need to be RESPONSIBLE for what MESSAGE they are sending our youth.

These teenage rapes leading to bullying leading to suicides are every single person’s responsibility.

We all know the court system is less than supportive towards victims of sexual crimes. When you are raped, sexually assaulted or molested it is not ‘only’ a crime towards your body. It goes profoundly deeper than that. It affects how you view yourSELF and how you view the world. IT CHANGES YOU. Everything you once believed in is no longer true because you question everything.

To then be a target for rumors, slanderous email and texts and photos passed around the internet just further solidifies the trauma and the shame the victim already feels. It turns inward and becomes even more magnified and damaging.

The ‘system’ is seriously flawed. Suspended or minimal sentences or community service for life altering trauma is APPALLING.

Guess what? WE are part of that failed system.

Look at the cause not the cure…what’s happening to our youth that they think it is ‘funny’ to rape someone? To laugh and take photos? How is it they are able to brag and post these photos online for anyone to see? To call the VICTIM a slut, whore or bitch? Why do they think it’s okay to taunt someone to death?

OUR VILLAGE IS IN SERIOUS CRISIS.

Our children need our help. We need to EDUCATE those who have not been taught core values of love, respect, kindness and compassion and we need to step up and PROTECT those who are being put into danger.

If you don’t think this is your problem, think again.

I am without words to properly articulate the sadness and sense of loss I feel for the families involved in these youth rape / bullying crimes that are leading to suicides. Although their stories are all over the news, I am choosing not to mention names because I recently read an article from the father of one victim stating he wants his daughter to be remembered for her kind and loving heart not her death.

I am respecting his wishes but I am NOT a quiet bystander. I will speak up. I will speak out. I will HONOR your children to the best of my ability by being a facilitator of change. JOIN ME.

My heart is with you and your loved ones.

Respectfully,

Tina
