Thank You

Two simple words often forgotten, misplaced or disregarded.

THANK YOU

Saying thank you does two things:

1. It shows another person that you APPRECIATE what they’ve done for you.

2. It acknowledges GRATITUDE, which is a quiet, but powerful energy.

I say thank you and express gratitude every single day.

Here are some examples:

  • Getting a prime parking spot! It’s great when that happens!
  • When someone lets me in front of them in traffic, I immediately wave and say, “Thank you” out loud creating positive energy and verbalizing gratitude.
  • Small acts of kindness that people extend towards me.
  • A beautiful day – I will write thank you in my journal for sunshine and blue sky.
  • I thank my dog all the time for her love and pure joy.
  • I thank my poor car which continues to run despite its looming expiry date.
  • The ocean – I regularly thank the ocean for taking my tears and sadness or for inspiration and wisdom. The ocean is my grounding place and I feel blessed and grateful to be around it.

Saying THANK YOU and acknowledging GRATITUDE are powerful ways to bring POSITIVE ENERGY into your life.

Even in the darkest hours, there are still reasons to say thank you: Fresh air, a slice of sweet watermelon, love of family or friends, a cat’s purr or a dog’s happy tail.

Despite hardships, challenges, pain or disappointments I remain thankful.

Through the challenges lie GIFTS.

I may not understand the gift in this moment but I know it is there.

Saying thank you, shifts your energy from being negative to positive. Seeing BLESSINGS instead of roadblocks. LOVE instead of fear. JOY instead of anger.

Saying thank you could be one of the most important words you say today.

TRY IT!

Observe yourself and when there is an opportunity to say thank you, say it, out loud. If this is a daily practice, you will notice change in your life. It’s a simple but effective way to create shifts and find POSITIVE ENERGY.

Now it’s my turn: Thank you. Thank you for reading this blog. If you choose to share it, thank you for sharing. Thank you for being open to change, growth and insight. Thank you for being YOU.

With a smile and gratitude,

Tina

PS. I love hearing from you, please feel free to post a comment or contact me!

Tina’s Next Scheduled Run:

Diva on the Run! It’s a 5K /10K run and Ladysport is part of hosting this awesome event for arthritis. I will be running with dear friends and we get a feather boa at the end. Love it!

Buzz Off!

I planned on running 9K in the morning and 10K for the Underwear Affair on Saturday. My plans got changed when a bee got stuck underneath the tongue of my runner and stung me right where my ankle bends. It hurt! No morning run for me…

THANK YOU x 2000:

Because of your donations, Jody and I raised over $2,000 for the Underwear Affair 5K walk/10K run event. At The Crossroads Blues Radio was my highest donation so here is the photo they get in honour of that donation. THANKS AT THE CROSSROADS!

The Underwear Affair Results:

The foundation received over $600,000 for cancers below the belt and over a thousand people ran in their underwear/lingerie/ costumes through Granville Island, past Science World, through Yaletown and over Burrard Street Bridge.

Personal “Firsts” – Training Tips Based On My Experience:

It was great to wake up Saturday and know I was going to laugh. And laugh we did…at ourselves…at each other. It was a hoot! You know the phrase, “There’s a first for everything” well here is my list based on this run:

1. Wearing full makeup, jewellery and perfume while running.

2. Wearing glitter…

3. Wearing a push-up bra! (Do not recommend this as my poor breasts were killing me!)

4. Wearing lingerie…I was tame compared to some and daring compared to others. Standing in lingerie is one thing…RUNNING in lingerie is a totally different thing.

5. My personal best time for a 10K. Jody kept saying, “You have a good pace” and I kept saying, “I want to get this over with!” Time: 1:03 (In a push-up bra and lingerie I might add!)

6. Wearing lingerie and RUNNERS…not my usual footwear when wearing lingerie…

7. Night time run – I usually run in the morning so planning my meals was a new experience for me with this run.

8. I got a phone number! Yup, someone left their phone number on my car…I suppose the guess work is out once you’ve seen someone running in lingerie. Do you think I called? Hmmm…

9. Running behind cute boys in red underpants…yes, it was a difficult run but someone had to do it! (She says with a smile)

10. Drinking beer afterwards. Celebrating with a bunch of other lingerie and underwear clad people who are sweating from running 10K or walking 5K in the heat…a little weird, but really fun.

Despite difficult times, it’s important to LAUGH. Find the experiences and people who bring out LAUGHTER in your life and create those moments…EMBRACE THOSE MOMENTS.

Laughter and not taking yourself too seriously is good for the soul/sole!

See you on Tuesday!

With a smile,

Tina

A Funny Phone Call:

I called my Mom this week and she was so glad to hear from me. “I have been so worried about you!” she said. Why? “This underwear run…what are you going to WEAR?!” Poor Mom, she’s been stressed out about this run! Don’t worry Momma, I promise not to expose myself or run in anything ‘inappropriate’. Oh, and thanks for your idea of the Spanx “FULL COVERAGE” body suit…yes, that is technically underwear…but no, that’s not what I’ll be wearing…

Tina’s Next Scheduled Run:

The Underwear Affair – Running in undies with my dear friend Jody Kennett to raise awareness for cancers below the belt. We run this Saturday and I am very close to my fundraising goal; if you can spare a donation please click HERE. Thank you!

A Quiet Moment At The Ocean:

I finished my jog, sat by the ocean and became overwhelmed with GRATITUDE. When you have your health; you have everything. Cancer is all around us. I know a Mother who is regularly at the Children’s Hospital, my Aunt and cousin who both had surgery, Jody’s Dad who continues to need more surgery and friends who are experiencing it personally or lost their family members due to cancer.

PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT AND UNDERSTAND HOW BLESSED YOU ARE TO HAVE A HEALTHY BODY. TAKE CARE OF IT AS IT TAKES CARE OF YOU.

Comparing Last Year’s Half Marathon With This Year – Training Tips Based On My Experience:

1. LAST YEAR: I threw up.

2. THIS YEAR, I didn’t! What was the difference? Last year I didn’t carry water and relied on water stations. I took a gel thinking there was a water station at the next marker. There wasn’t and the concentrated gel sitting in my stomach made me so nauseous! I threw up for hours after the run, swearing I’d never do a half marathon again. It was awful but once I threw up and slept, I felt great! Lesson learned!

3. LAST YEAR: I had a jacket wrapped around my waist for most of the run. It’s chilly when you are standing, waiting for the race to begin but once you start running you quickly warm up. Running with a jacket around you is bulky and awkward.

4. THIS YEAR: I wore an old shirt I could throw away, which I did as soon as they said, “Go!” Volunteers pick up the shirts and give them to the homeless. It’s the only way I’d feel comfortable ‘littering’.

5. LAST YEAR: I had so much stuff in my pockets! I had that big bulky jacket wrapped around my waist with my huge key chain (which caused a bruise banging into my thigh so I had to carry them for most of the run), a power bar, a banana, credit cards, money, lip balm, cell phone and gels. Crazy!

6. THIS YEAR: I had my little pack wrapped around my waist with coconut water, gummies, cell phone and money for a Starbucks afterwards. I had exactly what I needed with no bulk!

If you compare the photo from last year versus this year you can see the difference! I am much more prepared this year having learned from last year’s inexperience.

ANNOUNCEMENT:

I am getting very excited as my Ebook is nearing completion. So many details but I think you’ll be happy I spent the extra time to finish it properly. I can’t wait for you to see it!

Have a beautiful weekend and remember to take a minute and thank your body for remaining healthy and strong. Think about how you can improve on self care by watching what you eat or exercising. You deserve health and happiness. Be in the moment, love those you are with and tell them how much they mean to you.

Time is precious. People are precious. YOU ARE PRECIOUS.

See you on Tuesday!

With a smile,

Tina

The TRUTH About FEAR

I was writing in my journal, as I do each morning and I realized that when I do things, they get done. (Go figure!) When I don’t do something, fear is usually involved. Oh, it can disguise itself as procrastination, laziness or being ‘too busy’ but when you get right down to it; it’s FEAR.

So, whenever I have something I need to sort out, I go jogging. These are the thoughts that came to me while running 9K on Sunday. They are about fear and the danger of it:

Fear is a killer.

It kills your dreams.

It kills relationships.

It kills self confidence.

It kills your potential.

It kills possibility.

It kills love.

It feeds mediocrity.

It feeds judgment.

It feeds hate.

It feeds self loathing.

It feeds doubt.

It feeds insecurity.

It creates pain.

It creates depression and anxiety.

It creates loneliness.

It creates arguments.

It creates complacency.

It creates division.

HOW IS FEAR AFFECTING YOUR LIFE?

We are all afraid of something but is it stopping you from being the best person you can be? Is it stopping you from applying for a job you really want? Or going back to school because you think you aren’t smart enough? Is it stopping you from meeting new people? Or being totally honest with your lover? Perhaps it keeps you in a relationship when you know in your gut the relationship isn’t good for you. Or maybe it’s a fear your headaches are something more but you keep putting off the doctor’s appointment.

In my experience, fear is the absence of truth.

If I am disconnected with my instinct, my TRUTH, then I am fearful.

Your INSTINCT is your TRUTH. It’s the highest form of truth and you have the key!

This summer I will be facing many fears. Some of those fears are emotional and some are physical.

I have to run in my underwear on Saturday. Yup, I’m scared to do that but I also know it’ll be a great day with my dear friend Jody, for an awesome cause (The Underwear Affair) and I’m pretty sure we’ll be laughing the entire time.

I have promised my two nephews that I will bungee jump and zipline. I have bungee jumped once before but I am still terrified of heights. Why jump again? I will jump because I want the experience and the memories with my nephews. I do not want fear to dictate my memories.

Conquering your fear is a daily occurrence. It could be small, insignificant things, but once you pay attention to that small fearful voice, you can then empower yourself each time you walk through that fear. Fear does not have to dictate your life.

YOU DECIDE HOW TO LIVE YOUR LIFE.

LEARN TO LISTEN TO YOUR INSTINCT AND YOU WILL CONNECT TO YOUR TRUTH.

Be brave, choose you.

With a smile,

Tina

Tina’s New Kick:

I don’t know why, but lately I am LOVING peanut butter and bananas on toast!

Tina’s Next Scheduled Run:

The Underwear Affair – Running IN MY UNDERWEAR with my dear friend Jody Kennett from Leapfit. I still need help with my fundraising goal; if you can spare a donation please click HERE. Thank you!

Vancouver Scotia Bank Half Marathon:

It’s DONE! On Sunday my friends and I (and thousands of others) ran 21.1K! It was a beautiful sunny day and a fantastic jog.

Why I LOVE Running In Organized Events – Training Tips Based On My Experience:

  1. The GOAL. Running in an organized event gives you a goal and purpose. It doesn’t matter whether you are running 5K, 10K or 21.1K; your training becomes easier when you have a specific goal and date to work towards.
  2. The ENERGY. There is nothing quite like the feeling of standing amongst hundreds of other people waiting for the race to begin. The energy is contagious. Excitement truly runs through your veins and I feel pure joy being there. It’s the BEST FEELING!
  3. The ACCOMPLISHMENT. When you’re almost at the finish line and people are cheering for you “Keep going!” “You’re almost there!” “You can do it!” and you cross that finish line and someone puts a medal around your neck – energy and excitement surrounding you – WOW. It’s such a great accomplishment. It’s an enormous boost to your self confidence, and proves your inner strength and commitment. YOU DID IT! It’s a feeling I LOVE and it’s a feeling I’d love for you to experience.

CHARITY RUN:

As I mentioned last week, my dear friend and trainer, Jody Kennett from Leapfit and I are running IN OUR UNDERWEAR for the 10K “The Underwear Affair” on July 9th to raise awareness for cancers below the belt. Our goal is to fundraise $500 each.

This past week, both of us experienced what cancer does to a family. Jody’s Dad was in enormous pain since his kidney surgery. They couldn’t figure out what was wrong. His body was clearly reacting to something as the pain was intense and the swelling was obvious. Turns out he also has cancer in his bladder. He had more surgery and is waiting for the results this week.

My cousin just had a tumour removed and they are waiting to see if it is cancerous and my Aunt (my cousin’s mother) has stage 3 endometrial cancer. She is scheduled for surgery July 7th.

Cancer may attack cells but it brings a new perspective to life and to friends, families and communities. Small things become big things, such as the touch of a hand gently wiping away a tear or the sound of someone’s voice. People gather in the kitchen and cook, talk, listen and laugh, despite the stress that surrounds them. LOVE ALWAYS PREVAILS.

Please help us raise awareness, raise funds and reach our goal. Please click HERE to make a donation.

THANK YOU! YOUR GENEROSTIY IS GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Please note: When I set up my page on their site, I didn’t know what I was doing and that is why it says I made a donation of $2. Please know that this will change closer to the race date. (I didn’t want you to think I was cheap!)

Regarding RUNNING IN MY UNDERWEAR – maybe say a little prayer it doesn’t rain!

For those of you in Canada – Happy Canada Day! Have a safe long weekend and remember to surround yourself with the people you love and be grateful for another opportunity to LAUGH, LOVE and BE IN THE MOMENT.

See you on Tuesday!

With a smile,

Tina
