Tina’s Next Scheduled Run:

Diva on the Run! It’s a 5K /10K run and Ladysport is part of hosting this awesome event for arthritis. I will be running with dear friends and we get a feather boa at the end. Love it!

Buzz Off!

I planned on running 9K in the morning and 10K for the Underwear Affair on Saturday. My plans got changed when a bee got stuck underneath the tongue of my runner and stung me right where my ankle bends. It hurt! No morning run for me…

THANK YOU x 2000:

Because of your donations, Jody and I raised over $2,000 for the Underwear Affair 5K walk/10K run event. At The Crossroads Blues Radio was my highest donation so here is the photo they get in honour of that donation. THANKS AT THE CROSSROADS!

The Underwear Affair Results:

The foundation received over $600,000 for cancers below the belt and over a thousand people ran in their underwear/lingerie/ costumes through Granville Island, past Science World, through Yaletown and over Burrard Street Bridge.

Personal “Firsts” – Training Tips Based On My Experience:

It was great to wake up Saturday and know I was going to laugh. And laugh we did…at ourselves…at each other. It was a hoot! You know the phrase, “There’s a first for everything” well here is my list based on this run:

1. Wearing full makeup, jewellery and perfume while running.

2. Wearing glitter…

3. Wearing a push-up bra! (Do not recommend this as my poor breasts were killing me!)

4. Wearing lingerie…I was tame compared to some and daring compared to others. Standing in lingerie is one thing…RUNNING in lingerie is a totally different thing.

5. My personal best time for a 10K. Jody kept saying, “You have a good pace” and I kept saying, “I want to get this over with!” Time: 1:03 (In a push-up bra and lingerie I might add!)

6. Wearing lingerie and RUNNERS…not my usual footwear when wearing lingerie…

7. Night time run – I usually run in the morning so planning my meals was a new experience for me with this run.

8. I got a phone number! Yup, someone left their phone number on my car…I suppose the guess work is out once you’ve seen someone running in lingerie. Do you think I called? Hmmm…

9. Running behind cute boys in red underpants…yes, it was a difficult run but someone had to do it! (She says with a smile)

10. Drinking beer afterwards. Celebrating with a bunch of other lingerie and underwear clad people who are sweating from running 10K or walking 5K in the heat…a little weird, but really fun.

Despite difficult times, it’s important to LAUGH. Find the experiences and people who bring out LAUGHTER in your life and create those moments…EMBRACE THOSE MOMENTS.

Laughter and not taking yourself too seriously is good for the soul/sole!

See you on Tuesday!

With a smile,

Tina

A Funny Phone Call:

I called my Mom this week and she was so glad to hear from me. “I have been so worried about you!” she said. Why? “This underwear run…what are you going to WEAR?!” Poor Mom, she’s been stressed out about this run! Don’t worry Momma, I promise not to expose myself or run in anything ‘inappropriate’. Oh, and thanks for your idea of the Spanx “FULL COVERAGE” body suit…yes, that is technically underwear…but no, that’s not what I’ll be wearing…

Tina’s Next Scheduled Run:

The Underwear Affair – Running in undies with my dear friend Jody Kennett to raise awareness for cancers below the belt. We run this Saturday and I am very close to my fundraising goal; if you can spare a donation please click HERE. Thank you!

A Quiet Moment At The Ocean:

I finished my jog, sat by the ocean and became overwhelmed with GRATITUDE. When you have your health; you have everything. Cancer is all around us. I know a Mother who is regularly at the Children’s Hospital, my Aunt and cousin who both had surgery, Jody’s Dad who continues to need more surgery and friends who are experiencing it personally or lost their family members due to cancer.

PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT AND UNDERSTAND HOW BLESSED YOU ARE TO HAVE A HEALTHY BODY. TAKE CARE OF IT AS IT TAKES CARE OF YOU.

Comparing Last Year’s Half Marathon With This Year – Training Tips Based On My Experience:

1. LAST YEAR: I threw up.

2. THIS YEAR, I didn’t! What was the difference? Last year I didn’t carry water and relied on water stations. I took a gel thinking there was a water station at the next marker. There wasn’t and the concentrated gel sitting in my stomach made me so nauseous! I threw up for hours after the run, swearing I’d never do a half marathon again. It was awful but once I threw up and slept, I felt great! Lesson learned!

3. LAST YEAR: I had a jacket wrapped around my waist for most of the run. It’s chilly when you are standing, waiting for the race to begin but once you start running you quickly warm up. Running with a jacket around you is bulky and awkward.

4. THIS YEAR: I wore an old shirt I could throw away, which I did as soon as they said, “Go!” Volunteers pick up the shirts and give them to the homeless. It’s the only way I’d feel comfortable ‘littering’.

5. LAST YEAR: I had so much stuff in my pockets! I had that big bulky jacket wrapped around my waist with my huge key chain (which caused a bruise banging into my thigh so I had to carry them for most of the run), a power bar, a banana, credit cards, money, lip balm, cell phone and gels. Crazy!

6. THIS YEAR: I had my little pack wrapped around my waist with coconut water, gummies, cell phone and money for a Starbucks afterwards. I had exactly what I needed with no bulk!

If you compare the photo from last year versus this year you can see the difference! I am much more prepared this year having learned from last year’s inexperience.

ANNOUNCEMENT:

I am getting very excited as my Ebook is nearing completion. So many details but I think you’ll be happy I spent the extra time to finish it properly. I can’t wait for you to see it!

Have a beautiful weekend and remember to take a minute and thank your body for remaining healthy and strong. Think about how you can improve on self care by watching what you eat or exercising. You deserve health and happiness. Be in the moment, love those you are with and tell them how much they mean to you.

Time is precious. People are precious. YOU ARE PRECIOUS.

See you on Tuesday!

With a smile,

Tina

Tina’s New Kick:

I don’t know why, but lately I am LOVING peanut butter and bananas on toast!

Tina’s Next Scheduled Run:

The Underwear Affair – Running IN MY UNDERWEAR with my dear friend Jody Kennett from Leapfit. I still need help with my fundraising goal; if you can spare a donation please click HERE. Thank you!

Vancouver Scotia Bank Half Marathon:

It’s DONE! On Sunday my friends and I (and thousands of others) ran 21.1K! It was a beautiful sunny day and a fantastic jog.

Why I LOVE Running In Organized Events – Training Tips Based On My Experience:

  1. The GOAL. Running in an organized event gives you a goal and purpose. It doesn’t matter whether you are running 5K, 10K or 21.1K; your training becomes easier when you have a specific goal and date to work towards.
  2. The ENERGY. There is nothing quite like the feeling of standing amongst hundreds of other people waiting for the race to begin. The energy is contagious. Excitement truly runs through your veins and I feel pure joy being there. It’s the BEST FEELING!
  3. The ACCOMPLISHMENT. When you’re almost at the finish line and people are cheering for you “Keep going!” “You’re almost there!” “You can do it!” and you cross that finish line and someone puts a medal around your neck – energy and excitement surrounding you – WOW. It’s such a great accomplishment. It’s an enormous boost to your self confidence, and proves your inner strength and commitment. YOU DID IT! It’s a feeling I LOVE and it’s a feeling I’d love for you to experience.

CHARITY RUN:

As I mentioned last week, my dear friend and trainer, Jody Kennett from Leapfit and I are running IN OUR UNDERWEAR for the 10K “The Underwear Affair” on July 9th to raise awareness for cancers below the belt. Our goal is to fundraise $500 each.

This past week, both of us experienced what cancer does to a family. Jody’s Dad was in enormous pain since his kidney surgery. They couldn’t figure out what was wrong. His body was clearly reacting to something as the pain was intense and the swelling was obvious. Turns out he also has cancer in his bladder. He had more surgery and is waiting for the results this week.

My cousin just had a tumour removed and they are waiting to see if it is cancerous and my Aunt (my cousin’s mother) has stage 3 endometrial cancer. She is scheduled for surgery July 7th.

Cancer may attack cells but it brings a new perspective to life and to friends, families and communities. Small things become big things, such as the touch of a hand gently wiping away a tear or the sound of someone’s voice. People gather in the kitchen and cook, talk, listen and laugh, despite the stress that surrounds them. LOVE ALWAYS PREVAILS.

Please help us raise awareness, raise funds and reach our goal. Please click HERE to make a donation.

THANK YOU! YOUR GENEROSTIY IS GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Please note: When I set up my page on their site, I didn’t know what I was doing and that is why it says I made a donation of $2. Please know that this will change closer to the race date. (I didn’t want you to think I was cheap!)

Regarding RUNNING IN MY UNDERWEAR – maybe say a little prayer it doesn’t rain!

For those of you in Canada – Happy Canada Day! Have a safe long weekend and remember to surround yourself with the people you love and be grateful for another opportunity to LAUGH, LOVE and BE IN THE MOMENT.

See you on Tuesday!

With a smile,

Tina

Thank YOU for your generous donations towards “The Underwear Affair”. Because of YOU I am getting closer to my goal!

Tina’s Favorite Thing:

Traffic signs. I LOVE them because when I drive past a sign I say, “Yup, I’ve jogged that!” It’s the greatest feeling in the world!

Jogging Blessings:

The wonderful friendships I’ve made through jogging. They are such a blessing.

Vancouver Scotia Bank Half Marathon:

It’s HERE! On Sunday my friends and I (and thousands of others) will be running 21.1K! My bib number is 2390.

My friends and I are all wearing the same pink shirts. The shirts say: Sole Sisters ~ Friends to the finish (Don’t you love it!) Watch for us and CHEER US ON!

How to prepare the night before the ‘Big Run’ – Training Tips Based On My Experience:

  1. Mentally prepare yourself. I have moments of doubt and fear but if I let those thoughts take over, then I will have a difficult run. I think of how great the run is going to be, how much FUN it is with all that energy around you and how healthy and strong I feel. POSITIVE THINKING is extremely POWERFUL and it’s proven by professionals that it works. THINK POSITIVE AND HAVE A GREAT RUN!
  2. Don’t change anything! Keep to your regular eating habits regarding your training schedule and don’t try anything new. I will be eating organic oatmeal and a toasted bagel approximately an hour to two hours before I run.
  3. Lay everything out the night before. It’s an early morning (we are running by 7:00 a.m.) so have all your gear: hat, shoes, socks, water bottles, gels, race bib etc all laid out so you don’t have to think about it. Attach your bib onto your clothing and your timing chip onto your shoe.
  4. Get some sleep. This is a tough one for me because I’m so excited but try to calm your mind because 4:45 a.m. comes very quickly!

SELF CARE:

I saw Benita at Ocean Wellness this week and I’m so glad I went! My hips were out again so she asked me to come in this weekend before the big run and make sure I’m in alignment. She will ‘fit me in’ just to make sure I am safe to run. I love Benita; she is THE BEST!

CHARITY RUN:

As I mentioned last week, my dear friend and trainer, Jody Kennett from Leapfit and I are running IN OUR UNDERWEAR for the 10K “The Underwear Affair” on July 9th to raise awareness for cancers below the belt.

This is very real for both of us but particularly for Jody as she has spent a lot of time with her father in the hospital as he recovers from the removal of his kidney due to cancer. Any positive energy or prayers for her Dad are greatly appreciated.

It seems everyone is affected by cancer in some way or another. Please help us raise awareness, raise funds and reach our goal.

We will be jogging IN OUR UNDERWEAR (I was hoping Jody wanted to run in bloomers but she wants to be a little braver than that! Yikes!) Please CLICK HERE to make a donation. From the bottom of my heart ~ THANK YOU ~

Have a GLORIOUS weekend full of LAUGHTER, FUN and GRATITUDE. Don’t let the small things get in the way of what’s really important: EACH OTHER.

See you on Tuesday!

With a smile,

Tina

PS. My website is getting pampered with a makeover, so check out the Facebook, Twitter (I love it!) and LinkedIn buttons on the side and PLEASE SHARE YOUR COMMENTS (it should be easier now). You can tell me about your experience with cancer, training for a run, raising funds or anything else you’d like to discuss! I LOVE HEARING FROM YOU!

A plaque on my seawall jog

Tina’s Jogging Motto:

I feel good. I feel strong. (Repeat as many times as necessary)

The Magic Hour:

I love jogging in the morning. The air is fresh and it isn’t too busy. Peace and tranquility is the perfect way to start your day.

Tina’s Next Run:

In nine days I will be running with my dear friends in the Vancouver Scotia Bank Half Marathon. I am so excited to run with these ladies! Registration closes on Monday, so if you are still thinking about it…don’t think, DO!

How To Run Through “The Wall” Training Tips Based On My Experience:

For me, “The Wall” is a mental block, not a physical block. I have never hit a wall (knock on wood) so far that I haven’t been able to shift my thinking and work through. Remember: You CAN do it. You WILL do it. You ARE doing it!

  1. I had to run 19K alone this past weekend. When you begin a long run, don’t start too fast too soon. Even though you have lots of energy, you must PACE yourself or you’ll burn out before the finish. Don’t let yourself be swayed by the music (if you listen to music) or other runner’s passing you. Conserve your energy; you’ll need it.
  2. I don’t run with music so I’m running 19K alone, with just my thoughts. How do I do it? Well, I process a lot of my emotions and stress and then I observe and appreciate what’s around me – the ocean, the animated conversations of people walking by or if I’m lucky, I’ll spot a harbour seal poking his head out of the water. I am still discovering new things on routes I’ve ran for over two years!
  3. If you still feel like you are hitting a wall mid run, trust me when I tell you if you keep moving that wall will slowly fade and you will get your second wind. I felt that way this weekend but by 15K after running through it, I had more energy and new life in my step.
  4. Repeat a motto so no negative words can enter your head. Make sure you are well hydrated and don’t forget to refuel by taking some gels or gummies. If you need to take a couple extended walk breaks (3 minutes instead of 2 minutes) do so. Your body just might need that extra rest to repair and revive itself.

RUNNING IN MY UNDERWEAR!

My dear friend and trainer, Jody Kennett from Leapfit and I are running 10K in The Underwear Affair on July 9th to raise awareness for cancer’s below the belt. Our goal is to fundraise $500 each. We both have personal reasons for doing this run.

I personally have been affected with cancer below the belt so I am running for my own health and prevention. I recently learned my dear aunt was diagnosed with Uterine cancer. I will be running for her, and her daughter (my cousin). Both are strong, beautiful women.

Jody is running for two very special people in her life. Her Dad has survived both prostrate and bladder cancer. In addition, he is currently recovering from the removal of his kidney due to cancer. He is a three time cancer survivor! Another family member was just diagnosed with ovarian cancer and is currently undergoing treatment. The size of her tumour was 14 cm and she was not aware it was there.

Education of what to look for, awareness of the symptoms, and research for a cure can save a life!

I don’t know of one person who hasn’t been affected by cancer in some way or another. Please help us raise awareness, raise funds and reach our goal.

We will be jogging IN OUR UNDERWEAR (I’ve only done this in the privacy of my own home on the treadmill, so this will be an interesting experience and a lovely bonding moment for Jody and I! Ha ha)

Please CLICK HERE to make a donation.

From the bottom of my heart ~ THANK YOU ~

Have a BEAUTIFUL weekend full of LOVE and GRATITUDE…and make sure you LAUGH. It’s good for the soul. See you on Tuesday!

With a smile,

Tina

PS. My website will be getting a ‘check-up’ this weekend so if you are trying to access it or you’ve passed it on and your friend has trouble logging on, please try again in a few hours. THANK YOU!
